Reviewing the Westside Local makes me a little nervous. I don’t want to appear in a Hipster Attack video with my enthusiastic praise set to strains of flute music.
Trust me, if the food were mediocre, I would not hesitate to say so - trendy locale and minimalist design be damned.
The truth is that the food is fantastic and should be the main draw at this Summit Street hangout.
The locally sourced menu is short, sweet and full of inspired comfort food.
The Quinoa is a tangy, crispy, hearty revelation with thyme roasted butternut squash, dried cherries, brussels sprouts, shaved parmesan and crunchy bits of arugula.

The Chicken Pot Pie is contentment in a ramekin. Breaking into the fluffy buttermilk biscuit is a satisfying act, and the creamy goodness underneath is bursting with tender chicken and vegetables.

The mix and match Localities ($2 each) are meant to be adult appetizers, but make a great kids meal. On our Saturday afternoon visit, Elliott ordered a plate with apples, sweet & spicy pecans, and house made pickles. It came with slices of wonderful, crusty french bread. The bread was a hit with baby Emma as well (even though she was perfectly happy just gnawing on the wood slab tables).

Do not leave The Westside Local without trying dessert. I recommend their take on a trio of beloved candy bars: Snickers, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Peppermint Patties. These gourmet creations are a far cry from store bought candies; each one is rich, delicious decadence.

The moral of my story: don’t let the hipster appeal of this sensational restaurant scare you away. You can have your cool and eat it too!
